Bogeyman by Duane Michals Duane Michals, born February 18 1932, is a self taught American photographer. Michals's work makes innovative use of photo-sequences, often incorporating text to examine emotion and philosophy.
I really love this story board narrative by Michal. It's quite terrifying. The girl is simply reading until she gets suspicious about the coat hanged beside her. She checks if there is anything inside only to find that there is nothing there. She returns to her seat holding her book but not reading it. The fast movement by the bogey man is portrayed by the blur, which is how a camera captures movement when it's not a quality camera or it's on the wrong setting. It also gives a creepy, abstract feel. He picks up the girl and walks away with her as she screams.
Bus driver by Cindy Sherman
Cynthia "Cindy" Morris Sherman, born January 1919, is an American photographer and film director, best known for her conceptual portraits. In 1995, she was the recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship. Through a number of different series of works, Sherman has sought to raise challenging and important questions about the role and representation of women in society, the media and the nature of the creation of art. Her photographs include some of the most expensive photographs ever sold.
This is a very different narrative piece and I love it. It's all single shots of people sitting on the bus or holding onto the rails. Most of this isn't actually in order as there are two teenagers whispering to each other, although they are switched around. The one with his arms out is possibly the driver. There is a old woman who is leaning forward, presumably because she has nothing to hold onto to keep a steady stance. Mostly teenagers of every stereotype are sitting down, except a few middle aged women. and egotistical men. The women seen to hold up different types of women while the men seem to show be important men or men who deem them self important.
There is so much going on with each character who has their own looks and poses to give them personality. I do believe everybody in this are teenagers dressed up to betray different age groups and genders.
