Oskar Schlemmer
(4 September 1888 – 13 April 1943) was a German painter, sculptor, designer and
choreographer teacher associated with the Bauhaus school. In 1923 he was hired
as Master of Form at the Bauhaus theatre workshop, after working some time at
the workshop of sculpture. His most famous work is “Triadisches Ballett," in which the actors are
transformed into geometrical shapes. I
like the costumes a lot of his work and the people he inspired. These are so
fun to look at because they’re so wacky and imaginative.
Rachel Whiteread,
CBE (born 20 April 1963) is an English artist who produces sculptures, which
typically take the form of casts. She won the annual Turner Prize in 1993 – the
first woman to win the prize. Among her most renowned works are House, a large concrete cast of the
inside of an entire Victorian house that was going to be knocked down and
a the holocaust memorial sculpture. Just
reading about her makes me proud of women in general. She’s was a fantastic,
special woman by the sound of her work and empathy. It’s hearing her compassion
behind her work that really gets me interested, though casting entire houses
and stair cases is pretty fascinating in itself. I love the idea and I love
her.
